NOVEMBER 2024
Australia by Gracie
The senior room are doing projects on Australia. Recently we have been doing Aboriginal art. Aboriginals are an old tribe who lived in Australia for years. We've also done our own maps where we used an atlas to help us. Ms. Finnerty has helped us with some projects as well as doing loads of categories such as animals, sports, climate and much more.
I really enjoyed this activity because we got to pick our own topic. I’m doing an Aussie Rules project. I've found loads of fun facts like the average AFL player receives up to 1 million every season, and much more.

Pipette Art
We used test tubes to mix water colours for our art this week. We used pipettes to drop the water colours onto our pictures to create crazy wind blown hair using blow painting technique. We also painted secret messages on kitchen towels and used pipettes with drops of water colour to discover what was on them.

Maths Stations by Lucas and Anthony
Ms Finnerty and Ms. McWalter made a maths station timetable. There are 4 different groups. We complete one station per day for 20minutes. We use the Chromebooks for IXL. Ms. Finnerty teaches us about problem solving. Ms. Mc Walter uses Numicon to teach fractions. Another station is independent word problems.

First we chose an image that we would like to print. We used foam material to carve out our image with pencil. Then we outlined it with pen. After that, we rolled paint on to our foam image with our colours of choice. Finally, we stamped and pressed our image onto coloured card.

FEBRUARY 2025
Formal Letter Writing by Daisy, Sadie and Annabelle
Last year we sent letters to islands around Ireland and this year we wrote to places of our choice around Ireland. One person even wrote to the president of Ireland. She got a reply back with a picture of him and his dog! Another girl wrote to the Guinness storehouse and got a reply with tickets to a tour of it! We wrote interesting facts and questions about the places. We are all hoping to get lots more replies.
Book Writing by Katelyn, Olivia and Michael
This year the senior room are going to do Reading Buddies with the junior room. The senior room will read to them and help the junior room with spellings. Everyone will have a partner. After midterm the senior room will also be writing their own stories. The stories are allowed to be 10~40 pages long. Each page will have a picture at the top. We are planning it in our hardbacks, describing characters' personalities and appearances. We have to include the following: setting, rhyming words, repetition, good title, that grabs the audiences’ attention. We must include a beginning, middle and end.
Class Novel- War Horse by Nathan, Ronan, Anthony and Simon
We have been reading War Horse by Michael Morpurgo as a class novel. So far we have learned the book is about world war 1. The perspective of the story is told by a horse in the war called Joey. In the first chapter we are introduced to Joey's backstory of how he lost his mother at a farmers auction after that he meets a mean man who bought him. Albert and Joey become very close freinds. Later on Joey was sold to the military by Albert's father where Joey met Captain Nicholes. We have been summarizing the story so far, we have summarized up to chapter 18. We are focusing on the comprehension strategy “Summarising” and learning new vocabulary.
Abvie Stem Project by Gracie, Eleanor, Sophie and Emma
This February we are taking part in the Abbvie stem competition, we are entering four projects relevant to our local community. We are using seaweed because we go to school near the sea. Our four projects are seaweed using biofuel, seaweed fertiliser, seaweed ink, and seaweed water purification. For fertiliser we soak the seaweed in water and it creates fertiliser and we compare it to growing a plant with water and the fertiliser, for seaweed purification we put dirty water through the seaweed and see if it makes clean water and compare it to dirty water. This is a very educational project because it helps us connect with our local community.
Chair Yoga by James and Lucas
We do Chair Yoga on Fridays every week with Ms Mc Walter. We do some stretches to start the session. At the end of the session we do different things like smell essential oils, eat fruit or something tasty or listen to music to warm up.
